En video skapad i samarbete med regissören Georgios Giokotos. Sången ”Flow My Tears” är en av John Dowlands (1563-1626) mest berömda sånger. Texten handlar om upplevelsen av att vara i exil och att aldrig kunna återvända hem. Vi valde att porträttera detta genom mångtydiga bilder, med en skenbart allsmäktig person framför en liten värld full av pappersbåtar. Det visuella uppmuntrar åskådarna att skapa olika slags tolkningar, att se vad som är sant för just dem.

Det slog mig hur historiska texter fortfarande kan vara aktuella. Vår värld idag är besynnerligt lik den värld som John Dowland skrev om. Hans text inspirerade mig att ta initiativ till att skapa en video kring exil och makt. Vi ville sammanblanda historisk musik med samtida bildspråk, för att blanda två till synes olika uttryck för att skapa någonting nytt och förhoppningsvis lite tankeväckande.

A video created in collaboration with director Georgios Giokotos. The song ‘Flow My Tears’ is one of John Dowland’s (1563-1626) most famous songs. The lyrics address the experience of being in exile and never being able to return home. We chose to portay this through ambiguous imagery, with a seemingly almighty person in front of a small world filled with paper boats. The visuals encourage the viewers to create various different kinds of interpretations, to see whatever is true to them.

It struck me how historical lyrics still can be current. Our world today is strangely similar to the one John Dowland wrote about. His text inspired me to initiate a video touching on the subjects of exile and power. We wanted to fuse historic music with contemporary images, to mix two seemingly different expressions to create something new and hopefully a bit thought provoking.
